A different kind of drug test problem...?

Let me start this off by saying that I am not, nor have I ever been, any kind of drug user. However, I have shy bladder syndrome (I already know it's paruresis and have seen all the websites on it) and will have difficulty producing a urine sample for pre-employment drug tests. If I were to apply for a job shelving books at a library, is it likely that I would have to do a urine test? I would be perfectly willing and capable of doing any other kind of test. Drinking a lot, using diuretics, and listening to music do not fix this problem. I would request an alternate test (blood, hair, etc.), but I'm only 16 and can't get a doctor's note explaining my condition, so I don't know if that's possible...

I doubt a job like that would require a drug screening. Plus, you're still considered a minor and, therefore, cannot be "required" to have any kind of screening without your parent's consent. Most times the only jobs that require drug screenings are those where drug use would interfere with performance and/or potentially pose a danger to you or co-workers.

My mom is a librarian and yes the library drug tests. The library is considered government/city under job categories which of course requires you to have an urine drug screen. I completely understand what you are going through because I have the same problem. I am majoring in nursing so I definitely know I will have plenty of drug screens to endure. The only advise I have is to gradually expose yourself to difficult situations in which you would not normally be able to use the bathroom. This is what I am working on right now because I know I will have to take an urine drug screen to get a job. Even if your not successful the first time you try just keep doing it. I have gotten a little bit better but I still have a long way too go. Unfortunately,the government has not had any mercy on people with this condition. Honestly, I dont think anyone will allow you to take an alternate test. Most companies have a contract with these urine drug screen companies and they dont want to use any thing else.I am sorry that I cant be of more help but I wish you the best of luck!

First of all, I hope that libraries drug test. That's where all our children go to read. For your problem, just relax and don't think about what you are doing. It will get better with time.
