Military and hair folicle tests?

Hi everyone. I need some help. I am working on a group paper for a managment class and was assigned the topic on hair folicle drug tests used in the military and their impact on the work force. I've done some research, but have not found quite enough info. Anyway, do they give hair folicle tests or urinealysis tests to those go to boot camp or officer canidate school? Do they give them to servicepeople throughout their careers? and whats the penalties if they get caught? by the way, if anyone has any links, that would be awsome. Thank you everyone.

I'm Active Duty Air Force and I've never had a follicle test and I know of it being used no where in the Air Force. When you enter the uniformed services (any branch) you process through the Military Entry Processing Station (MEPS) and receive a urine test, this goes for all services. If you need help feel free to shoot me an email. ;)

as an active duty Navy enlisted person, I can attest to the fact that the military does not use hair folicle tests. We get a random urinallisis with command orientated tests given at least 2 times per month of 50% of the command personel. The sysytem is all random by a computer, so your name may not be drawn for six months, but you may be on every one. So there is no deffinate time they will test. Also, the Commanding Officer may mandate aditional tests such as after a holiday break or 3 day weekend. Also, an individual may be subject to test if the command has information that the person is in fact involved with drugs. If drugs aare found in the system, the military has a "no tolerance " policy and usually kicked the member out with either an other than honorable or sishonorable discharge. And the rumore of writing to congress to get it upgraded to honorable is true, but there has been only 1 approved in 13 years, because the individual passed a lie detector and was aquited of the charge.

never heard of the military doing hair folicle tests but i know when you enlist (at least in AF) you go through MEPS and have a urine test...after that it is random sort of a lotto type system. my husband sometimes gets hit up 3 times a month then not again for 2 years.

they use urinalysis only

They don't give us hair follicle tests. They give "random" urinalysis tests, commonly referred to as "piss tests". I actually had one recently. Evidently they think I'm resourceful enough to figure out how to score some stash in Iraq.
