Question about drug testing (not me personally)?

An employee of ours is going through a divorce and had to have a hair follicale drug test. Because she "colored" her hair before the test, the judge deemed it not reliable. Does coloring your hair effect testing? Now, she has been ordered to have a "toe nail" drug test done. Could anyone help me understand this more?

Question about drug testing (not me personally)?

I work as a Med-Tech in a Toxicology lab... When you color your hair it strips it down some to where the presents of drugs is not as strong but still there. However, Family courts usual request the donors last 3 months of growth (1 1/2 inches from the root) So if she is mandated to take clippings of her toes nails it will only go back about 1-2 months because nails grow more rapidly than the hair. If a donor goes in for a drug test and dyes their hair or shaves all their hair off their body it looks suspisious to the courts. I've done family court custody drug testing for the last 5 years and coloring your hair does not have a huge effect on the results unless the person goes bleach blonde. That would be very suspisious and has a greater effect than coloring your hair darker. As for nail clippings, nails are just dead cells with the same stuff as your hair. They are harder to break down, but less reliable in my field. Most of our court donors are required to have 2 types of body hair and a urine test done. That would be head hair then pubic.... if no head hair they goe for the under arm, then arm/leg hair. Best of luck and feel free to e-mail me with any questions

Question about drug testing (not me personally)?

there are chemicals that are in the hair that can get into the DNA stored into her hair, so those chemicals can be read wrong as drugs.

Question about drug testing (not me personally)?

Sure, certain drugs such as crack or meth can leave the system very quickly as much as e few days. they will not show up in the standard pee test. the hair and nails of the body do hold on to these drugs and show up for quite some time. The hair being damaged buy the treatment might have made test results inconclusive so the next on the list is nails.
